Weekly Wordsmith 006

We had a different release planned this week, but life has a way of steering us in unexpected directions. (Psst! Be sure to check the Creator Notes section at the bottom of this email.)

Curiosity

Jason here. Nearly twenty years ago, Alli and I walked into an animal shelter on a whim and left with a tiny black kitten. Over the years, he collected a thousand nicknames, but for some reason, "Moo" was the one that stuck.

As far as cats go, he was a good one—chasing bottle caps, tolerating multiple moves, and even putting up with the arrival of two loud little humans in his otherwise tranquil, sun-drenched world.

Two years ago, as we geared up for our time in New Zealand, Zach offered to watch him. Almost instantly, Zach’s son formed a bond with Moo that turned the temporary arrangement into a permanent one. Moo spent his final years as “Shadow,” bringing joy to Zach’s family—still the same curious and loving soul he had always been.

Today, we celebrate Moo and the joy he brought into our lives for nearly two decades. He reminded us to embrace life with curiosity and love. His memory will always be a part of our story.

Introducing CREATOR NOTES

A big thank you to everyone who supported Zach’s show in Encinitas last week! After sharing the event details here, we had an idea: CREATOR NOTES—a small section of this newsletter dedicated to highlighting creative projects from our community.

We’ve been lucky to meet so many talented people chasing their own curiosities, and we’d love to help shine a light on them. If you’re working on something and want to spread the word, send it our way!

To kick things off, here’s something big from a friend worth sharing:

UPCOMING SHOW: ‘IT’S A MIRACLE’ by Max Stossel

Max Stossel is my favorite poet. Years ago, our worlds collided thanks to Gary Vaynerchuk, and I’ve been in awe of his ability to condense big ideas into melodic prose ever since. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, start with Impostor Syndrome or his classic, This Panda is Dancing.

Longtime fans might remember our print release for his poem ‘Subway Love” a few years back.

Max has a new show coming up—check out the teaser on instagram below and if you’re anywhere near New York, the show just added two dates!
